Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X Install
Start by downloading the SDK from Zenographics site (you will need to register with them to download the SDK). The file you're interested in is called SDKColor.dmg. I had some trouble downloading this file with Safari on 10.2 (it supposedly works in 10.3), but it worked fine in Mozilla.

Read the rest of the hint for the how-to...

  1. Make sure that the printer is powered on and connected to the network via Ethernet, and is in the same IP range as your network. My network is using DHCP on 192.168.1.xxx, so I have assigned 192.168.1.248 to the Minolta as a static IP address using the menu on the printer.
  2. Reboot the Mac system if the printer was connected after the last reboot.
  3. Open the SDKColor.DMG file that you downloaded from Zenographics.
  4. Run the PKG file inside the DMG file. Complete the installation process. If no install hard drive appears, then click 'Back,' then click 'Next' again, you should then get a green arrow on the startup drive -- this happened to me.
  5. Open Print Center.
  6. Click the "Add" button while holding the ALT key.
  7. From the pop-up menu choose Advanced.
  8. From the second pop-up menu that appears, choose "AppSocket//HP JetDirect." You will then need to provide a meaningful name (eg Minolta Magicolor 2300DL) in the Device Name field below the menu. After that, insert the IP address of the printer after the text socket:// in the "Device URI" field below that -- for instance, mine reads socket://192.168.1.248.
  9. From the "Printer Model" pop-up menu, choose "ESP."
  10. From the list of models that appears below the Printer Model selection, choose the "Zenographics SDK Color CUPS v1.1" driver, then click the "Add" button at the bottom of the dialog.
You should then be able to print OK. I have tested this myself on a Mac G4 450DP and a Powerbook G3 300 (both running OSX 10.2.8) with the Minolta Magicolor 2300DL through my home network connection. The print quality is not as good as it is on a PC with the genuine Minolta drivers, so if I need a high quality print I save it as a PDF using Preview, then transfer the PDF to my PC and print it from there.

[robg adds: An earlier hint contains another solution for the Minolta, though this one seems much simpler...]

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X
Authored by: jsares on Oct 06, '04 12:15:07PM

Fantastic Hint! This worked great and was so much easier than the previous method. I printed identical documents from my Mac and Windows systems and didn't notice any difference. What type of documents printed better from Windows?

Jason

PS Any ideas on printing from USB?

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X
Authored by: tgaynor on Nov 22, '04 09:17:22PM

I followed the instructions and they work fine . . . .

When I pring from Word, the text looks burnt into the paper. In other words, each letter has a bleeding effect to it. I do not think this is what other people are seeing becuase it is not usable for everyday printing. Any ideas on tweaking the drivers?

I used this hint for the Magicolor 2300 DL. So far so good. However, I'm encountering some problems. 1) Black text is mushy 2) can't print at all from appleworks. Any ideas to remedy this?
Thanks

Try the 2430 driver. http://printer.konicaminolta.com/support/current_printers/mc2430dl_sup.htm#osx . You will get crisp text in color.

Settting the output mode to BW helps
Authored by: jjpron on Jan 30, '05 04:39:24PM

The printer prints grayscale just fine for me.
When I click on print, then go to 3rd option (the one that says "Copies and Pages") and change that to "Printer Features" I select the Black and White, and then there's no bleeding.
No color:( but I'll take BW...

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X
Authored by: ryensen on Sep 29, '05 02:52:27PM

I cannot get the 2430 driver to work with my 2300 DL under Tiger. I am using a USB connection and have been able to get the Zenographics driver to work, but I am not happy with the fuzzy printing and want the quality that you all claim for the 2430 driver. HELP!!!!

Getting clear text on 2300dl
Authored by: et voilĂ  on Apr 03, '05 01:02:06PM

To get pretty text: go in printer features -> features sets -> more options. Select output resolution to 2400X600 dpi and output mode to grayscale. This is the only way to get clear text AFAIK and it works great. You should save that as a preset. For photos, set resolution to 2400X600 dpi, color output to color, save as preset. The photos aren't always as clear as printed from windows computers though.

Bonne chance!

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X

The following was sent in as an anonymous hint; I'm attaching it here as a comment as it's really an extension of this hint.

-----
Thing have gotten a little better on the 2300DL front. The Zenographics driver works well for grayscale but the color text printing is blurry. Konica has released a 2430dl driver for OSX. The Konica color driver however doesn't respect the grayscale setting so I think you probably want to use both.

This older hint discusses how to get the Zenographics driver installed. You don't need to register anymore and can just download it here. Follow the instructions for setup and then test. Now go to Konica's website and get the 2430DL driver. Set this up the same way (including socket printing not IP). And you have good color printing. I haven't tried this with a direct USB connection so if anyone does feel free to edit this hint.

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X - 2340DL driver works great!
Authored by: jburggraf on Jul 07, '05 03:18:12AM

The Konica Minolta 2430DL driver works perfectly with the 2300DL printer. I successfully installed it on my OSX Mac and it now prints beautiful color and b/w with no "burned" look in the black and white. Thanks for the great hint! Yeah!

Could anyone please guide me how to install 2430DL driver on mac os10.4.2 and use it for 2300DL printer. I have installed the driver but the printer does not recognize it. I set it up as HP socket, the same way as I did zenographics. The zenographics driver works fine but with blury text on color print. Thanks,

I was trying to get our 2300DL to work under Leopard , but I couldn't. I used the 2430 drivers, but no luck. I keep getting: "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/socket failed" as an error message.

To print to the QMS magicolor 2300 DL via Ethernet:

Download and install the Magicolor 2430DL drivers from Minolta's website.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are running Mac OSX 10.2 then you will first need to download and install Ghostscript from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/macosx.php3 (espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg is a precompiled version, so you just run it and install from the ESP Ghostscript.mpkg file).

1. Make sure that the printer is powered on and connected to the network via Ethernet and is in the same IP range as your network. My network is using DHCP on 192.168.1.xxx, so I have assigned 192.168.1.248 to the Minolta as a static IP address using the menu on the printer.
2. Reboot the Mac system if the printer was connected after the last reboot.
3. Open Print Center.
4. Click the "Add" button while holding the ALT key.
5. From the pop-up menu choose Advanced.
6. From the second pop-up menu that appears, choose "AppSocket//HP JetDirect". You will then need to provide a meaningful name (eg Minolta Magicolor 2300DL) in the Device Name field below the menu. After that insert the IP address of the printer after the text "socket://" in the "Device URl" field below that. (Mine reads socket://192.168.1.248)
7. From the "Printer Model" pop-up menu choose "KONICA MINOLTA"
8. From the list of models that appears below the Printer Model selection choose the "KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2430DL" driver, then click the "Add" button at the bottom of the dialog.

You should then be able to print OK.
I have tested this myself on a Mac G4 450DP and a Powerbook G3 300 (both running OSX 10.2.8) with the Minolta Magicolor 2300DL through my home network connection. The print quality is as good as it is on a PC with the genuine Minolta 2300DL drivers, although the images are printed slightly darker on the MAC (only noticeable when the prints are side-by-side).
I have also tested this on a Macbook 2.2Ghz running OSX 10.5.2. I have been using this setup on various Macs on my home network for over 3 years now.

Update to my previous post (for OSX 10.5 users only):
Replace steps 3 onwards with the following steps:
3. Open Print & Fax.
4. Click the Add Printer button (+)
5. In the window that appears Set "Protocol" to HP Jetdirect - Socket. "Address" should be set as the IP address of the printer. "Queue" can be left blank. "Name" Konica Minolta 2300DL.
6. "Print Using" Click on "Select a driver to use". Scroll down to "Konica Minolta Magicolor 2430 DL". Click on "Add". Select any options you have added to the printer then click "Continue". You have now successfully set up your printer.

Set up the Minolta 2300DL printer on OS X
Authored by: triker dave on Nov 09, '09 05:02:21AM

Another update:
Those instructions will work with Leopard, however I have recently installed Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6) and I have found it slightly different to set up now.
In Snow Leopard to connect to 2300DL through Ethernet:
1. Download and install the Minolta 2430DL drivers (Yes, 2430DL).
2. Go into Print and Fax - click on the + to add printer
3. Select Konica Minolta magicolor 2300DL - Bonjour
4. Set the location as the IP address that is assigned to your 2300DL (eg. 192.168.1.248)
5. Print using - select printer software - select the Konica Minolta 2430DL from the drop down list - click ADD
6. Select any installable options you have fitted to the printer - Click Continue
7. You are now done. Print a test page.

Hope this clears things up for Snow Leopard users.

Another way to get this Minolta QMS 2300DL working on OS X 10.6.3

from http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Minolta/Minolta-magicolor_2300_DL you'll find detailed instructions
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/

note: you do need to compile it, but it worked perfectly. (use curl instead of wget or browser to download .tar.gz file)
