Change the mouse pointer in Chicken of the VNC Apps
I use Chicken of the VNC to access my other computers over my home network, and it works great except that the mouse pointer shows up as this pseudo-fat dot instead of an arrow or whatever. I found the fat dot a little hard to see sometimes, so I looked inside the COTvnc application (control-click on the application, choose Show Package Contents, navigate into Contents -> Resources). Sure enough, there were three TIFFs representing the three pointers COTvnc uses (I have no idea what the other two are for, but sometimes they show up).

To change the pointer, just open the TIFFs (called rfbCursor.tiff, rfbCursor2.tiff, and rfbCursor3.tiff) in your favourite image editor (like Photoshop Elements), and replace them with your own 16x16 TIFF images. In Photoshop Elements you have to select a checkbox in the "Save as" dialog to make it include the transparent background. Also, you will not be able to save directly into the COTvnc app. You have to save it to the desktop (or wherever) and then copy it into COTvnc afterwards.

My renditions (boring as they are) can be downloaded, if you'd like to save some time.

I used COVNC a lot previously, but it totally broke with Panther. I'm not sure how you're using it. For me the key bindings and full screen mode are broken under 10.3.

For my XP box I switched to the free XP Remote Access stuff from MS (which is faster anyway) but I'd like to see COVNC working again someday for OS X.

Please let me know if I'm the only person with problems.

I don't use it with full-screen mode, so I am not sure how that works. I don't have any problems with the key bindings (actually I don't really have any... Cmd-Q doesn't quit COTvnc, but that is good, because usually I just want it to go straight through the the computer I am controlling)

Check out the latest Beta of 2.0 of CotVNC. We've added full support for Panther, with fullscreen mode, and lots of other changes. There are a few issues that seem to be cropping up (TightVNC and encoding), but the developers are actively hunting down issues. I use it every day (the latest CVS builds) on my PowerBook 17" with Panther connecting to my Solaris 8 system, with no problems.

Looks good. I hope you get the TightVNC probs fixed; that's what keeps me from using CotVNC [we already standardized on TightVNC so I can't go back and change that now .... :o( ] .

I like the fact that I can now create shortcut keys in CotVNC; folks, if you don't rely on TightVNC servers, check this new version out.

Nope, Chicken works fine under Panther, just DL the latest version.

Use Share My Desktop to be the VNC server if OSXvnc isn't working for you.
