Connect to a Microsoft ISA server Network
I have had huge problems with my Mac (OS 10.3.5) and my network at work. I could not authenticate to the server and neither Safari, iTunes Music Store, Software Update, iSync, etc. would connect. This has bugged me for the past year.

In Panther, OS X has brought proxy server configuration to the Network Preferences pane (Proxies tab), and allows you to enter your password details. Despite entering my correct username and password, I was not getting anywhere. I tried the solution of entering my username and domain as domain/username, but this was not working (note a forward slash, not back slash). This may work for some, but it did not for me.

The solution? Enter your username as username@domain.com (or .net or whatever) and BINGO! It worked for me and I am now back to evangelising about Macs and showing my colleagues how much better they are than PCs. :)

I can't stress how simple this solution is, but how happy it has made me and other mac users at work.

generally you can use username:password@domain.com to get into windows servers, or unix for that matter.

In the Proxy tab (in Network settings)

1. I ticked all the proxy servers. The "Web Proxy Server" would need to be ticked if you wanted to use Safari, the "Secure Web Proxy Server" should be ticked to visit secure websites (banking). I think it is also needed for the iTunes Music Store and other Mac apps. Anyway, I ticked them all!

2. For each proxy server (eg FTP Proxy Server) I gave the name of the Microsoft ISA server at work (ask your IT department for this). It is either a name or an IP address.

3. Next to this name there is a smaller box to put the port number. Again your IT department should have this, but in my case it was port 8080

3. Click proxy server requires password

4. In the Account field, put your username@domain.com (e.g. pjhk@company.net). N.B. You could also try domain\username (note forward slash) but this did not work for me!

5. In the Password field put your password.

Good luck.

In point 4 it should have read "You could also try domain\username"

Whoops.

well the web proxy works, but that's always worked..

what doesn't work is trying to reach hosts outside of our private network.. if i was actually able to connect to the isa firewall, i would be able to reach them (like the windows hosts on our network can). you have tried to reach other sites such as via telnet?

i'm afraid your hint doesn't completely work, only for web access (which i've already had)..

Connect to a Microsoft ISA server with NTLM

For my setup, NTLM was being used on the ISA server, and so I used Authoxy by HRSoftworks. Works Great!

We have a Windows 2000 Domain, and have Mac OS X Panther with latest updates.

For Microsoft Isa Server to communicate with OS X clients, you need to have Basic and Integrated Modes enabled on the Isa server.

Then on the mac clients specify the name of the proxy server and list port 8080 for the approriate protcols listed in proxy pane of the network panel located in system preferences.

When an attempt is made to surf the Internet using Safari or IE, the user is then prompted for their username and password.

Domain Name\Username
and their Windows network account password.
