I got my new 4G iPod yesterday and immediately tried to get my mail into the notes folder. So I looked around the net and found the Mail to ipod script [use Safari to view nicely formatted source] from From Concentrate Software.
But it didn't work so well for me. For one, it didn't parse emails into several chunks correctly, and the fact that it didn't let me choose how many emails I wanted to download annoyed me. So I updated it a bit [16.6KB download]. I added a variable so that you can choose how many emails you want (you could easily code in a pop-up dialog box asking you for that if you want, but that sort of stuff annoys me). I also made it parse long emails into 4KB chunks that the notes system on the iPod can read.
I call this script from QuickSilver, just entering the name and letting it run. It fetches the latest mail and pops 20 of the newest ones to my iPod, very quickly. It even tells me when it's done (can be turned off if you don't like your Mac talking to you).
I hope others will find this as useful as I do. You don't have to buy iPod It anymore if you just want your mail to be transferred to your iPod. iPod It is still great for other stuff, though.
