A workaround for the PreferencePane error in Xgrid System
Just thought I'd post the results of my email to the Xgrid team -- in case anyone else is looking for an answer to the PreferencePane error.
We are aware of this problem, and investigating the root cause. In the meantime, the following workaround should suffice. From the Terminal, type:
% sudo cp -p /Library/PreferencePanes/Xgrid.prefPane/Contents/
  MacOS/writeconfig-xgrid-template /Library/Application Support/
% sudo chmod a-w /Library/Application Support/Xgrid/writeconfig-xgrid
% sudo chmod u+s /Library/Application Support/Xgrid/writeconfig-xgrid
Please let the Xgrid team know if that fails to address the issue...

[robg adds: I inserted two line breaks (for a narrower display) in the sudo cp command -- just remove them and don't add any spaces after the ending slashes...]

Additional note to copy and paste programmers: (like me) Along with removing the carriage returns as Rob mentions, don't forget to either escape the space in all occurances of Application Support with a \ backslash or to put quotes around the entire path.
