To do this you will need the usbtb CUPS USB backend and the HPIJS driver, since this printer is PCL6 compatible. Here's how to get it working:

  1. Install the HPIJS drivers
  2. Install usbtb, and when it detects the KX-P7105, it won't find the driver, so simply select Choose Driver.
  3. Select the HP LaserJet 5si Foomatic/HPIJS driver and print the test page to see if everything is OK. Now we have a working printer but no duplex. We have to force it.
  4. Launch the printer configuration tool and select the KX-P7105 and then select Show Info.
  5. In the Show Info dialog, select the Printer model and change the driver to the Apple Laserwriter 8500 (or any PostScript model) Click Apply Changes.
  6. Go to the Installable Options dialog and click the Duplex setting button, then click Apply Changes.
  7. Return to the Printer Models dialog, and reselect the HP LaserJet 5si Foomatic/HPIJS and click Apply Changes.
  8. Test this with any two page document -- the duplex setting in the print dialog should be working.
Now you can use the full duplex capability and save trees at the same time.
