Use Opera to browse local files

I read somewhere on the web a tip about being able to use Opera to browse an iPod and pull songs from it. Just drag your iPod to an empty Opera window and browse to:

file://localhost/Volumes/your_ipod_here/iPod_Control/Music/

You're presented with a bunch of "F" directories and I can't see how the songs are indexed. So it makes finding a particular song difficult.

However, this browse feature is also quite useful in other ways ... I was looking for a particular file in a recent backup of mine. I use Apple's Backup app and didn't need to restore the complete backup; I was just looking for a specific prefs file. I thought I'd give Opera a try, and it worked for that too. I dragged my backup file to an Opera window and was able to navigate to the specific file and "download" it to my desktop. I tried this in other browsers and it didn't work. I guess I'll have to keep Opera around.

[robg adds: Other browsers have local file browsing capability as well, but Opera's is relatively nicely done. Drag and drop a folder, and you'll get a multi-column listing of name, type, size, and date/time. Directories are clickable, and files that Opera can handle (JPG, PNG, MP3, etc.) are played/shown right in the browser.]
