Yet another way to close Safari's Preferences panel Web Browsers
According to Safari's included keyboard shortcut list (in the Debug menu if you have it enabled, or via /Applications -> Safari.app -> (Control-click and Show Package Contents) Contents -> Resources -> Shortcuts.html), Command-. (Period) is for "Stop." However, if you open the Preferences window in Safari (Command-,) and then press Command-., it will close the preferences window.

[robg adds: You can also use Command-W or the Escape key to close the Preferences dialog, so there's really no reason at all to reach for the mouse!]

IIRC, any panel (the class of window that closes with the escape key, often used for preferences) also closes with cmd-. (although I could be mistaken).

I hate to sound like a real moron here, but how is this useful?
I don't know of any method of navigating the aspects of the preferences without using the mouse.

So I'm still reaching for the mouse/trackpad, while I'm at it I will just close the window by clicking the red dot.

Now if someone knows how to navigate the preferences via keyboard, that will be a real trick I could use.

I'm pretty sure the command-. thing is a universal shortcut for the cancel button in dialogs or other windows. I tried it in windows in other applications like the save dialog in textedit or the prefs in firefox and I get the same effect. This isn't just a Safari thing apparently

oh wait nevermind (kind of)... I didn't notice that Safari doesn't have a cancel button in the prefs window, which is interesting... :\
