Send Mail to each of a user's unique email addresses

I use Address Book group a lot when sending out emails. One thing that I found frustrating was that I could not send to multiple email addresses for a single user when using groups, so that they would receive the email at both their home address and their work addresses. Here is a workaround:

  1. Create two (or more) groups, like groupname home and groupname work.
  2. Add all the users you want to send to into both groups.
  3. Select the first group, and choose Edit -> Edit Distribution List...
  4. In the "Change All Labels" dropdown, select "Home"
  5. Do the same for the "work" group. Don't worry if some people only have one or the other address, Mail.App will not allow you to send to duplicate email addresses.
  6. Create a third group: groupname and drag the two other groups into this group.
Now in Mail.App, when you type in groupname, it will pick up all unique email addresses for every user in the list. Of course, if you have a user with three or four addresses, repeat the process, creating new groups for each type of email address you have defined in Address Book. Hope this helps!
