I create little documents in TextEdit with embedded OmniGraffle diagrams. However, even if you use Copy as PDF from OmniGraffle, the pasted image is in TIFF format, and looks bitmapped when printed. The solution is to route the images via Preview, using the following simple procedure.
- Copy the OmniGraffle image as usual -- no need to select copy as PDF.
- Switch apps to Preview, and select File -> New from clipboard.
- Drag the file icon in the title base of the new Preview window into TextEdit.
Hey presto -- vector PDF image in TextEdit. To test this trick, try it both ways, and use Print Preview to examine the difference in quality. Sadly, this trick does not work in Word.
