For those of you poor souls out there in Mac-land that still rely on a dial-up connection to surf the net, be sure your IPv6 is turned off! I struggled for many hours trying to establish a connection when I realized the error. The IPv6 is located in System Preferences -> Internal modem -> TCP/IP (located in the tool bar between PPP and Proxies). Good Luck!

Disable IPv6 for dial-up connections
I connect using dial-up and have just looked in my System Prefs under the headings described in the original post.
Disable IPv6 for dial-up connections
I'm away from home, using standard dialup from a hotel room, and I didn't have this problem. Initially, IPv6 was set to automatic config, but to test this hint, I set it to manual, which generated a bunch of zeros in the IPv6 and Router address text boxes in the IPv6 config dialog. Reconnection went off without a hitch. There is still no address next to "IPv6 Address" in the Internal Modem prefpane, just as before setting IPv6 to manual. So the bottom line is, IPv6 made absolutely no difference in my ability to connect.

The guy must have had a problem with the modem. He should use the option V.90 because his ISP probably does not support V.92 and than you get real hard time establishing connection. |
