I just had one of those Eureka moments. Instead of futzing around with iTunes and Excel to make music lists, I just need to use the new iTunes 4.5. I don't know how Apple does it, but it just keeps getting better. Of course this solution works only on Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and up, but that's just peachy for me. If you want to print your library out and post it on a webpage or email for others to peruse, do the following in iTunes 4.5:
- Select Library from the Source menu on the left side (or any playlist, of course).
- Go File -> Print (or Command-P)
- Select Song Listing and change the drop down menu to customize to your liking.
- Click Print and in the resulting Print dialog, press the Save as PDF button.
- Use Preview to check out the resulting file to ensure its all kosher.
You can see the results of my efforts
right here. To view the PDF in your browser, you'll need to have the
PDF Plugin 2.01 (Mac OS X) or Acrobat 5.x (Windows) installed. The PDFs are searchable, too (using Preview or Acrobat).
