When you have an internet browser open and you hit a backspace key on keyboard, it will go back one page (hit twice - two pages etc.). It seems to work at least with Safari, IE and Opera under 10.3.3.

While I guess this should be pretty obvious, I thought I'd mention it (since it took me a bit to figure out why myself). If you are using a key hack program such as uControl (<a href="http://gnufoo.org/ucontrol/">http://gnufoo.org/ucontrol/</a>) to remap Shift + Delete to Forward Delete, then the Shift + Delete command in Safari no longer works. Safari sees the Shift + Delete as a Forward Delete (Fn + Delete will do this as well) instead of it's key shortcut for snapping forward a page.

Jason,
Yet another back/forward key for some browsers
Safari also takes command-[ and -] for back/forward respectively.

Cmd- [ and Cmd -] also happen to be the only keyboard shortcuts that work once you're "trapped" inside a form, i.e. a text-box. You have to refocus the body of the webpage in order for the other shortcuts (cmd-arrow, backspace, etc) to work. This is because when you're inside a text-box, cmd-arrow by default moves you to either the front (back arrow) or end (forward) of the line in the textbox (as it should). And of course backspace acts as backspace.

I have gotten used to the backspace key to go back a page, with one regret. If you happen to be looking at your Bookmarks, backspace will delete the current bookmark - oops!
missing contextual menu in Safari
Anyone know why the Safari contextual menu is so terse? One of the reasons I still use FireFox over Safari is the navigation options available just by right clicking on a page. Perhaps there's a way to add actions to the menu? |
