Enable Postfix with TLS and SASL on 10.3.3 UNIX
Apple ships Mac OS X by default with all necessary software to make postfix run with SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security). In the following link I have written a short guide how to enable SASL and TLS in postfix:

Postfix + TLS + SASL on Mac OS X Panther 10.3.3

[robg adds: I won't claim to have tested this writeup, as I had to go lookup SASL and TLS just to know a bit about what was being explained!]

<a href="http://www.cutedgesystems.com/weblog/Tutorials/PostfixEnabler.html">Postfit Enabler</a> might be useful to some people. It appears to have the ability to enable SASL.

Sorry, but something seems to be wrong in your manual.
The second line of shell code refers to the directory /usr/local/sasl2 which does not exist by default in Panther, as far as I remember.
I am not sure what the smtpd.conf file is supposed to do there, but I am afraid your tutorial won't work with an out-of-the-box system.

Fixed, the path must point to the directory of sasl library, which is located in /usr/lib/sasl.

Postfix Enabler

I currently have used Postfix Enabler to set-up Postfix.

This tutorial looks comprehensive, but does the author know whether there is any conflict between his instructions and Postfix Enabler's way of doing things?

Postfix enabler does not use the session cache and the tlsmgr. Don't you wanna know what your are doing while enabling theses features?

Me, too. And it was last updated in 2005, so you know it's fresh.
