I have managed to get a Canon IR3300 laser printer without the optional postscript board to work with a G5/OS10.3.3 even though Canon say it can not be done. Here is how:

Using the OS X 10.3.3 Printer Setup Utility, select Add Printer and select IP printing from the top of the list. Next input the printer's IP address (download Netspot Device installer for Mac OS X from the Canon website to find/change the IP address and ports). Finally, change the printer model in the bottom box to "HP Laserjet 4 series, CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.5" (as installed by OS 10.3). Click on Add. When the printer gets added to the list of printers, select it and change its name to something like Canon IR3300.

This works because both these lasers use PCL5e. Hope this helps someone else.
