After reading FunkDaddy's hint about using Option and Return for downloading files from the Safari address bar, I thought I'd try it with the Activity window. When I tried holding Option and double clicking an item in the Activity window, instead of opening it in a new browser window as usual, it started downloading.

Firefox has something similar
Using Mozilla Firefox, right-click and choose View Page Info. This can also be reached via the Tools menu or with Cmd-I. Select the Media tab, find the object you want and click on the Save As... button underneath. Handy.

Now, does anyone know how to clear the Activity Monitor? It becomes useless pretty fast when you have to scroll past a tremendous list of items to find the page you want.
