Print shipping labels on eBay and PayPal Web Browsers
If you ship items through eBay or Paypal, you'll find that both IE and Safari can't print shipping labels through each site's shipping program.

The solution? Try Mozilla or Firefox; both worked for printing labels in my testing.

The last time I sold on eBay (around Christmas), I had no issues printing the PayPal shipping labels with whatever build of Safari was current at the time...

I've never had a problem printing shipping labels out of PayPal or eBay using Safari either.

I use Swordfish Express (versiontracker) to print mine. Granted, the postage is not paid (you have to go to PO or whatever) but it creates great labels with tracking info.

I think what the original hint/post was referring to was the use of the Print JavaScript code. You see this a lot of times built into the web page; similar to "Close Window".

I've often had problems w/ this functionality in Safari but the latest build has improved upon it. Not perfect... it prints usually half the time, but before, I could never get Safari to perform this script.

i printed labels from safari via ebay and ups. did three of them about a month ago and another three about three months ago. no major issues.

one thing i noticed: depending on your safari prefs, it's possible that the label printing page may come out such that the text at the top forces the important part of the label (an image with barcodes, etc.) partially onto a second page. this is obviously bad - makes the label unusable. to prevent this, simply select view>"make text smaller" (or hit apple-minus a few times) before printing. this will shrink the text down to a small enough size that the text and the label all fit on a single page.

i personnally think it would have been better to have their website generate and download a pdf of the label - that eliminates any weirdness caused by oddities in the way your browser prints. but i guess it would also make it slightly more complicated.

I am not talking about "Create Printeable Packing Slip" , I am Talking about printing a Paid Shipping label from the US Postal Service , that uses "Pitney Bowes" system. You can not print this using IE or Safari.

I was trying to print a prepais USPS label just last night. In Safari and Camino the Java applet would not initialize. Is this hint saying that it will work with Firefox and/or Mozilla?

Funny, I didn't have any trouble getting Safari to print labels, either... but interestingly, Safari scales the image slightly, making it look fuzzy, and I'm not sure if the Post Office's barcode scanners are going to like this. For this reason, I ended up using a Mozilla based browser.

Another important note about the way the PayPal labels work: The javascript they have set up to open the popup window causes it to look like an unrequested popup, which will in turn trigger Safari or Camino's popup blocker. It took me a bit fo figure this out, before I finally noticed the little exclamation point in the info bar, and unblocked the site. After that, it worked fine.

(I assume that's not why someone thought Safari couldn't print labels, right? If you don't see that there was a blocked popup, it'd look like it just didn't work.)

I tried with the latest Panther Safari and no luck. It kept printing up the "sample" across the label wether or not the pop-up blocker was enabled or not.

Camino worked. version 2004062308 (v0.8)
