Run Cisco's PIX PDM utility on 10.3.3 Network
I inattentively connected to one of our PIX firewalls yesterday from my Mac rather than the normal Citrix session, and while I'm sure in the past I've tried and failed, this time the PDM (PIX Device Manager) app started just fine. The PDM is a Java app to provide a GUI for managing and configuring PIX firewalls, avoiding (mostly) the command line. Far from detailed testing, but other than the usual certificate warnings, it seems to run perfectly -- including graphs and configuring rule sets.

The PIX is running 6.3.3 and PDM 3.0(1) while the PowerMac is running 10.3.3, Safari 1.2.1 (125.1), Java 1.4.2 and has Xcode 1.1 installed.

not that you'd ever want to have a PIX anyway, but desides that, the PDM has worked fine for me, as long as I turn off the "popup blocking" which I love.

So where do you get Cisco's PiX PDM?

You simply connect to the PIX, https://ip.address.goes.here/

In order to have PDM you must either have a new-ish PIX that came with at least v6 of the onboard OS, or be in a current support contract with Cisco.

If you have a Cisco login, you can download new versions of both the PIX OS (e.g. 6.3.3) or the PDM (3.0.1), and load them onto your PIX as specified in the instructions on Cisco's site.

I'm running OS X (10.4.3), Safari 2.0.2 and PDM 3.0, but still no workie. And yes, popup-blocking is turned off. It displays all of the normal error messages about certs and hostname mismatches, which I click ok, but in the end it just displays the cisco graphic and the hourglass indicates the browser is doing something, but nothing ever happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Has anybody gotten the PDM to work on other browsers? I keep getting a message stating that Java isn't running when I use FireFox.

Also, after exiting the PDM Safari crashes, does this happen to others as well?

thanks,
willdaddy
