Add some free GarageBand effect presets Apps
Even if you haven't bought Jam Pack, you can still make use of the Jam Pack 1.0.1 update. If you download it and mount the .dmg file, you can then use Pacifist to open the installer package. Then all you have to do is drag the effects to the appropriate place in your Library, and you have several new effect presets.

Which things do you grab and where do you put them?

Thanks guys...you can also navigate the mounted dmg file and go into the app directory tree through the command line ... and $ man pax

Find the .pax files, unpax them (if you will) and go navigate the Garageban.app directory tree and plop them in the appropriate place (once you start to navigate either tree it should make sense -- and sorry, if it doesn't you probably should not be on the command line [yet :]).

Of course this _will_ be the last update as such that comes from Apple that does not have some level of encryption placed into it -- actually it surprised me that I could unpax the unencrypted attached .pax archives.

Silly Apple. Windows is nothing but a bad bag of tricks.

There is actually an easier way.
First mount the .dmg and copy the installer to the desktop (or any folder on your HD).
Now right click it (or control click if u don't have a 2 button mouse) and choose "show package contents".
Find the file called "InstallationCheck", in contents/Resources, and trash it.
Then just run the installer as normal.

Interesting. Even more interesting is that if you remove this script it will try to install it even though you dont have garageband installed. I wonder what its doing? must be putting crap in weird places.

It's probably not letting you empty the trash because it believes the file is in use. Restarting will fix this.

However, if that does not work, you may need to get info for the files and change the permissions.

Well, I couldn't even get it _into_ the trash. Just trying to delete it gave me the insufficent priveleges error. I did try to change permissions on it, and the .pkg file itself, but the "You may" dropdown said "read and write" and was greyed out. No dice. Any other suggestions?

Be sure that the package is copied out of the disk image and onto your hard disk. I had the same problem until I realized, oops, that I was trying to delete a file from a read-only disk (the disk image). Copied to my desktop and voila: works perfectly.
