Enable pause-resume bookmarks on AAC-encoded files

According to a knowledge base article you can enable any AAC format music file for bookmarking (continues playback from where you last left off), by changing the type code of the AAC file to "M4B ", including the space at the end, but not the quotes. You'll need to use a program such as FileInfo to make the change. If you want to revert back to an unbookmarked AAC file, change the file type back to "M4A " for regular AAC files or "M4P " for tracks purchased from the iTunes music store.

[robg adds: If you try the above link to the Apple KnowledgeBase, you'll find that it fails. For some reason, shortly after publishing the article, Apple pulled it. You can also change the file type if you've installed the Developer Tools by using the SetFile utility in the Terminal. Once changed, you should be able to play and stop and pick up again at the same spot when you return.

Warning: Not knowing why Apple removed the KnowledgeBase article, consider this hint somewhat experimental -- perhaps there are downsides to this change that we are not aware of.]
