Re-enable Brickhouse firewall after upgrade install Apps
This may be more of a reminder than a hint, but it affected me. After installing Panther using Archive and Install, I was please how most all of my Jaguar settings were preserved. My one oversight, however, was not reinstalling Brickhouse's firewall settings. I foolishly assumed they would have been retained. After a system upgrade, Brickhouse needs to be restarted and its startup items installed.

I had been using Panther for several weeks when I ran a Virex scan and found 30 bad files. I had never had any infected files before. Although I realize they may have nothing to do my failure to use the firewall, it is still a good idea to check your firewall settings after a system upgrade.

You don't have to go through the trouble of setting up BrickHouse again. This can take some time if you have added rules to the default rules. You do need to copy the Firewall folder in the /Library/StartupItems from your old installation to your new installation. You also need to transfer the /etc/firewall.conf file from your old installation to your new installation.
