While the iTunes visualizer is running, your display will not sleep, regardless of whatever your settings might be, unless the music is stopped or paused. This feature only seems to exist in iTunes -- displays will still sleep if you are watching a movie in QuickTime Player, for example.

VLC also prevents your display from sleeping, and it even goes further than that: when you connect your TiBook to your TV using the S-Video Out, you can dim your screen until it's completely blacked out, while your TV output will still be visible.
Feature, not a bug...
I hated when the display would sleep instead of showing the visualizer. The display sleeping would mean that energy saver prefs were not being ignored--which should be the case if iTunes in playing IMHO.

Yeah, while we're on the subject - why *does* QuickTime Player insist on sleeping every time I watch a long movie? It's somewhat annoying.

You have to have display sleep turned on for it to go to sleep during QT movies.
