Modify Finder toolbar to prevent Safari window confusion

One problem when having multiple Finder windows open, an iTunes window open, and one or more Safari windows open is that it's often confusing to know which is which when seeing just part of the windows that show. This is my (partial and basic) solution to the problem.

I customized my Finder toolbar by moving an icon in front of the Back and Forward buttons (I put an icon of the Desktop there. Now, just looking at the upper-left hand corner of any window, I can easily tell which are the Finder windows, thus saving me time since now I don't go to the wrong window as often. It would be nice if "customize toolbar" would let you change the colors, then windows from various applicatons would look different.

I know that I can use Exposé to quickly show all windows, but that's one extra movement (and also I still just click windows as I've always done, often forgetting that Exposé is an option.)

[robg adds: I've used this simple trick myself, except I just swapped the back/forward buttons with the icon/list/column view icon to their right. If Apple would enable background colors in column-view windows, I'd be happy -- I'd just make my Finder windows a subtle non-white shade, and that would end the confusion...]
