I had movie I made and rendered to disk from a while ago that I wanted to burn to DVD. I also wanted to add those neat scene selection screens that iDVD4 has. I did some research and found out that if a movie has a chapter track, iDVD will automatically create the scene selection submenu for you. But how do you create the chapter track outside of iMovie and FCE/FCP? Simple, using Apple-supplied AppleScripts:
- Go to Apple's AppleScript QuickTime page and download the script set [3.7mb download].
- Open the movie you want to add chapter tracks to in QuickTime Player.
- Open and Run the "Create Chapter Track.scpt" from the scripts you just downloaded.
- Choose the Video track of the movie when prompted.
- Move the movie's playhead to the place where you want the chapter, then open and Run the "Add Chapter at Current Time.scpt". It will prompt you to name it.
- Repeat the last step until you are done. You can use the "Delete Chapter.scpt" to remove mistakes from your movie.
- Save the movie and then drop it onto iDVD and that's it! iDVD uses the track names to create the button names.
Enjoy!
