10:3: Take advantage of new Image Capture features Apps
Panthers version of Image Capture is finally a useful program. I use it for a few things now:
  1. I import from my camera through Image Capture instead of iPhoto. Not only is it quicker, I can delete or choose photos and export them from the camera before importing them into iPhoto.
  2. You can import pictures, sounds, and movies from the camera.
  3. If you change the System Preference "CDs & DVDs" to Image Capture in the "When you insert a picture CD:" section, It will not open iPhoto when you plug in your camera, insert a PCMCIA adapter with the card, plug in a card reader, or insert a photo CD. (whew, holy run-on sentance, Batman!)
  4. You can change the ICC profile of the pictures before you import. If you choose the "Download some..." you can preview the photos and also view all the info about that image by changing your view in the toolbar. Look in the "Options..." button for more.
  5. Export individual images out to different size formats.
  6. Share your camera over the network. I was shown this by some Apple people and it is so cool if you need to get some pics to another Mac far away quickly. It basically mounts through Image Capture and you can download from the camera in Hawaii from California.
  7. The Coolest feature is the Web sharing (on port 5100), as detailed in this hint. You can take pictures with your camera remotely and view all the goods. It really is cool.
Anyway, check out the new features. I am sure there are more I haven't covered here.

I've not had a chance to make use of any of the features yet (or even read it all much), but users might also want to check all the Applescripting dictionaries relating to image manipulation, which links in rather nicely with the above hint. Looks like much of the above could be automated with a few nifty scripts.

Pretty extensive - there's even something about metadata tags in there.

About #3:
There's a preference in Image Capture that does exactly the same thing.

10.4: What happened to Image Capture??
Authored by: jiclark on Jan 01, '06 02:03:54PM

Since Rob linked to this in a recent hint, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone here has any clue as to why Image Capture took such a HUGE step backward in Tiger? It is mind-boggling how bad it is: basic keyboard shortcuts don't work, it won't remember window settings changes, etc., etc....

It's been driving me crazy for months.
