10.3: How to install Microtek scanner drivers Apps
My friend has a Microtek ScanMaker 4800. Microtek has not yet released Panther compatible software. It seems a few extraneous applications and drivers are installed when using the current driver installation package. These may cause incompatibilities, instabilities, or even an OS X beach ball party. So, follow these simple directions to get you Microtek scanner up.

**NOTE: The Microtek step by step for Panther is useless and inaccurate. DO NOT FOLLOW IT!

  1. Download this installation package only! sw5_v701_macx_jag.dmg
  2. Mount the dmg on your desktop.
  3. Open the folder called "Packages" and you should see several seperate installers.
  4. You will need to run two of the installers. First, install "ScanWizard 5 V7.01.pkg".
  5. Next find the corresponding installation package for your scanner model and install it. It should look something like "SM****-SW5 V1.**.pkg". Treat the asterisks as a wild card.
  6. Reboot
You scanner should now work.

While i really appreciate hints like this (i struggled myself about the scanmaker drivers not available for Panther), microtek is now offering a Panther-compatible driver update.

You may find it here:
microtek.nl
(this is the european site, but it's also availble at microtekusa.com)

"This version is currently only availble in the English language. Other languages will be added soon."

I just went to the Microtek USA website. I am not able to find the Panther version of the driver for my Scan Maker 4900. Will download from Europe instead.

I found a Page on Panther Drivers at the NL site.

Maybe this will help.

10.3: How to install Microtek scanner drivers

I also have Microtek scanner, actually two of them. After I upgraded to Panther I got a spinning beach ball. I tried a fix you sugested but it did not resolve my problem. I still got a spinning beach ball. I went to Microtek's site and printed their instructions. Now, I am able to scan. There are two flaws in the above instructions: One, an install with out removing a previously installed version, will take you right back to aspinning beach ball. so it must be done first. Two, since I have two scanners I have to install three packaged to get both scanners to work, instead of just one install of the whole package.

Tried using "sw5_v701_macx_jag.dmg" but found no file
"SM4700-SW5 V1.00.pkg" needed for my ScanMaker 4700 scanner.

Followed 1-6 in lipids Feb 6 post with these three exceptions
(1) Before installing the drivers, trashed all files, folders, aliases with names containing "scanwizard" and "microtek". See Microtek KB-00012 section Uninstalling ScanWizard from Your Macintosh.
(2) Downloaded "sw_5_v711_macx_jag.dmg". It's 70MB total.
(3) Installed only "ScanWizard 5 V7.11.pkg" and for me "SM4700-SW5 V1.01.pkg" from the "Packages" folder.

So far scans using ScanWizard 5 Version 7.11 have been OK under Panther ( 10.3.2 ).

Anyone still reading this? I have a 3600 that I'd like to use. I'd rather not buy a new scanner if I can get this one working...

If you have one and are using it with Jag/Panther, what did you do to get it to work?

Thanks
