Scroll both directions with one mouse press System
In OS X.2 (can't confirm on other versions), when you hold the mouse button down while pointing to a scroll arrow UI widget, it scrolls the window as expected. But then when you move the mouse (still holding the button) over the scroll arrow of the opposite direction, it also activates and scrolls the other way.

In OS 9, each arrow needed a new click-and-hold. Holding the mouse down and dragging off the original button caused nothing to happen. So switching directions meant taking your finger off the mouse button and re-engaging the opposite scroll arrow.

All of the arrows (I prefer a double-arrow at each end) seem to act as one button while you hold the mouse down. However, the horizontal arrows are independent from the vertical ones. This is a very small thing, but it may be useful to you if you like to fine tune your view using the arrows!

If you scroll with your mouse scroll wheel and hold shift, you're able to scroll horizontal. nice for the finder....

It works back as far as 10.0 (probably even public beta) in Cocoa applications. It was added to Carbon in 10.1, I think.

What's amazing is how ingrained usage becomes. Even using X since the beta release, I *never* noticed this. I think it will be very handy, but like Expose, it will probably take me months to incorporate it into habit. Wish I could do a clean install in my brain of a few things :b

I assumed you meant vertical and horrizontal. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. It only works when you keep the mouse button down and move the the arrow pointing in the opposite direction from the one you originally clicked on. Moving to an arrow on an orthoganal scroll bar won't work... too bad because that would be a cool feature too.
