Install an easy to use OS X AvantGo conduit Apps
Someone finally created a Palm Hot Sync conduit for Avantgo that works under Mac OS X. See this entry on VersionTracker for more info.

Mal Conduit is based on the unix malsync utility, but works like a standard Palm conduit. There's no separate app or AppleScript to run, unlike previous workarounds for AvantGo's refusal to provide a conduit for Mac OS X.

[robg adds: In trying to find a direct download link for this program, it seems that it was created by Will Macdonald, who is somehow involved with MacZipIt.com (as the 1.2mb download is hosted there), but there's no reference to Mal Conduit on the ZipIt site. Click here to donwload the conduit. I actually then took the time to set up AvantGo, which I've never done before, and tried the conduit -- it works as expected, and installation is relatively trivial and well documented in a Read Me on the disk image. Pretty impressive!]

I also suggest JPluck to those who are looking for an AvantGo-like alternative. It requires a bit more setup and does not use a conduit, but is much more configurable.

Who's Will Macdonald?

Not sure who Will Macdonald is, but I'm the author of both mal conduit and ZipIt (which is, of course, why mal conduit is hosted on the ZipIt site). There's no "official" page because I haven't yet figured out how much time I'll have in the future to update the product.

Thanks for making this! It works great. I tried Jpluck. It has some advantages - you can save files to the memory card, and you can create your own sites, even from RSS feeds; however, Jpluck doesn't have a conduit for the mac which means you have to do everything manually. If, like me, you need to get stuff quickly on your palm before rushing out the door, then Avantgo is still the way to go. I hope to see Jpluck improving in the future (many of the pre-configured sites don't even work).

I would love to download this, but when I follow the download link it eventually takes me to a web page full of code and I have not been able to download anything. Is there another link somewhere I can try? I've used both Netscape and Explorer with the same results. I've never had this problem trying to download software before.

This open source conduit solution for syncing Palm handhelds with OS X has disappeared without a trace from the Internet. I've searched high and low for this conduit for syncing Avantgo to a Palm (or Handspring) handheld. MAL Conduit which was posted on www.maczipit.com has disappeared. It is possible the site has gone down temporarily.

The odd thing about it is it appears to exclusively posted at that particular site. Surely there must be another posting of it somewhere on the web - but I have tried to locate another server source.

This conduit is too important to have it disappear. Should anyone have this software, I would and so would many others appreciate a source for this conduit. A message can be sent through my username. Thanks.
