10.3: SearchGoogle.service can disable window switching

Since Jaguar, we have been able to switch between windows in any (?) app by using the shortcut command + <. Very convenient and addictive. But after upgrading to Panther, this didn't work on my Mac. In some apps, the shortcut instead opened the Amazon webbsite in Safari! Very frustrating!

But the solution is very simple when you know about it: Just trash the file "SearchGoogle.service" in ~/Library/Services. This removes the "Search Amazon" and "Search Google" items from the services menu -- whose shortcuts rule out the Mac OS X built-in shortcuts. Then log out and in again.

I dont' know which application installed this file. But couldn't Apple make sure that built-in shortcuts have higher priority than installed ones? They should.

[robg adds: Command-< is an interational version of the US keyboard's command-tilde (the < key on international keyboards is where we see our tilde) . I did a bit of digging, and it seems the SearchGoogle.service was installed by, perhaps not surprisingly, the SearchGoogle.Service service -- which I found by, ummm, searching Google for SearchGoogle.service.]
