Working in 10.2.6, I was recently banging my head against a wall when my 2200 would not let me choose glossy paper types after switching from matte ink to photo ink. I would try to print, everything would seem to work for a while and then the print queue would stop itself and the job would be put on hold. There were no error messages at all!
Turns out that the driver can not tolerate a change of ink types as well as the OS 9 drivers and isn't capable of telling me so (thanks to the wonderful new printer support from Apple!).
After several futile restarts trying to get the driver to recognize the new type of ink in the printer I came upon a simple (and perhaps obvious) solution: After a switch from one type of ink to the other, simply go to the print center and remove the printer from the list. Then click on the add button and put it back into the list. Viola, you are now able to print again!
