Eudora 6.0.2 search problem resolved with downgrade Apps
For those three or four of us still using Eudora in Panther (much faster than Mail, IMHO), it took me awhile to figure out why the search function (which is used to sort through mailboxes) crashed or took a very long time to retrieve the search results.

Turns out to be a 6.0.2 problem as downgrading to 6.0 restores a zippy search function. Thought this would help a select few!

[robg adds: I thought I'd run this, as 6.0.2 is still the officially available version at eudora.com. It took a bit of digging, but I found this page which lists older Eudora installer downloads, including 6.0.]

Eudora 6.0.2 search problem resolved with downgrade

I've found that Eudora 6.02 has slowed to a crawl on my pb800 with 10.3.2. I'm seriously thinking of switching..

before you downgrade ...

consider whether some other factor is at work ...

i'm using Eudora 6.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.3.2.. i haven't noticed any difference in speed between any of the 6.x versions.. i have several very large mailboxes and i often do searches of my whole mailbox tree.. note that all my accounts are POP -- searching of uncached IMAP mail, since it sends the search command to an IMAP server, could be a whole nuther thing

I don't have the problems you describe with Eudora 6.0.2 on my iBook with Mac OS X 10.3.2.

Searching and other things are as fast as they always been.

It's a real problem guys. I'm running Eudora Pro 6.0.2 (paid) with Mac OS 10.3.3 on a G4 running at 1.4 GHz.

I'm currently doing a search for the word "games" on my junk folder which has 20,819 emails in yet (yes, all <30 days old) in an attempt to find false positives. I'm running Eudora in the foreground with the search window in front and no other programs (I'm typing this on a separate computer.)

So far Eudora has found 10,422 matches and taken:

1 hour and 25 minutes

and is not done yet. Even if it were searching all the emails at a ridiculously slow rate of 4 per second, it would be done by now. Looking at a text file I can almost skim that fast myself visually. I know in Eudora 5.x I had would have been able to do this whole search in under a minute.

There's no way I can work if I can't find emails, and there's no way I can find emails if I can't search my mailboxes, and there's no way I can search my mailboxes if it takes hours for every search. I'll need to try the downgrade or switch mail programs, even though I've been a Eudora customer for 9 years.
