10.3: Receive notification of incoming faxes System
This weekend, I had occasion to use the fax receive feature in Panther for the first time. Though it worked well, I was somewhat surprised that there wasn't a "fax received" notification. Sure, you can print it or have it emailed, but no simple little "Hey, a new fax has arrived!" notifier is included.

After a bit of digging on the web, I found Fax Alert Installer, by Rainer Brockerhoff. This freeware folder action script comes with a double-clickable installer, and does the job perfectly. Once activated, any new faxes received will cause an alert to pop-up showing the number of new items added, as well as an option to display the item(s) in Preview.

Simple, useful, and free -- and the source of the script is included, in case you wish to modify its functionality.

Hm, I just added a folder action to the incoming fax folder: "new item alert". This folder action script is already included in 10.3 so there is really no need to use a third-party script.

my incoming-fax-folder is the desktop, so i dont need any alert.
i dont have tons of files on my desktop, cause my desktop is like a todo list, only files i have to work are there. and if there is a new fax .. for sure i have to read it.

i am tired about all this alerts and "are u sure" windows, and i whish there where an prefpane to disable the "r u sure to shutdown"-windoze.)
