Avoid P800 iSync Bluetooth connection failures Network
I recently convinced the office to buy me a P800 (no I didn't think it would work either, but I ended up with two!) to write software with (I use and emphatically recommend MobileVB from AppForge). Coincidentally, I could also use it for syncing with my Mac.

However, I was continuously plagued with mysterious dropped connections during the "connecting to " phase. No rhyme or reason, resetting, turning wi-fi on or off, location or distance made it better. Then one day, I tried syncing a second time, and it worked! What was the trick? I have the "auto keylock" preference turned on. After I realized the only difference was that the keypad was opened during the successful sync, I now manually lock the keys and leave the keypad open during a sync and have 100% reproducibility of "good" syncs! Hope this helps someone as much as others' hints have helped me!

I tried your tip and yes, this one is gold to me as a P800 owner! It solved other BlueTooth problems as well, I was sort of on my way to the dealer to get myself a new P900 because of all the BlueTooth problems with my P800, many thanks for helping out this way!

Great! This hint also worked for similar problems with P900.

MobileVB? Why not just learn to program natively for Symbian instead of using a kludge for running apps built with the crappiest platform around? Just because VB is easy does not mean it's good.

better/worse aside, its quicker. when your development is tied to ROI and your own personal financial reward, you will think of other priorities rather than despising a given platform for your own personal opinions. as a professional developer, i can use the *same* MobileVB code and deploy to symbian OS (UIQ,series 60, nokia 9200 and 36xx/76xxx), palm os 3;4;5, pocket pc 2000,2k2,and 2k3 with the only changes being screen-related and what method i choose of storing data (use sybase ultralite for the data-storage choice and you only have to modify the screens). tell me how quickly you can comp, develop and deploy an app in c or java (yes i do those, but not because i like them, but for business reasons) to any or all of the above platforms? i thought so. you would do yourself, not to mention your clients, a favor if you checked it out and got over the M$ prejudice; i've all apple hardware in my home/ home-office, but outside that i have the rule "i'll take anyone's money" that applies to client/business choices.

The syncing hint works seems to sort my problems so far, as to native programing of symbian apps, I'm curious as to how to develop Symbian Apps using my MacosX iBook when the SDK is completely windows PC -oriented. as is the symbian emulator provided etc.

If you could point me to a site with suitable info, I'd be very interested

Cheers

i sync with two pc's (xp and 2000 pro) and my mac g4 (10.3). it seems that i get a dropped connection error after i go from syncing with the mac, then to the pc, then back to the mac. if i unplug and reinsert the bt dongle (belkin, no antenna) i'm okay, if i then sync again on the mac, connection error. open isync and sync, no connection error. go figure.
