If you use the new scanning software from Epson (1.25), you may notice that the scanner's main light is always on, and the scanner has no on or off switch. Epson support claims the scanner turns itself off after ten minutes, but it doesn't. The cost of a new bulb is worth more than some scanners. The workaround:
Go to Activity Monitor and kill the Twain Bridge activity. Put your computer to sleep and then wake it up. The light is now off. To turn it on, find the small aplication called Scan Monitor and double click.
If you need to repeat the process: In step one, kill Scanner Monitor along with Twain Bridge.
