10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
Dec 04, '03 10:50:00AM • Contributed by: Anonymous
Open a bunch of finder windows then press F11 then press the equal (=) key. When you do, the top Finder window will come back on the screen. That's it.

10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
Seems to work with any non-modifier key.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
This isn't working on Finder windows using any key. Maybe it's tied to the names of your hard disks and so on (mine isn't named Macintosh HD anymore)...?
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
The Finder window has to be the active window. If you have Finder windows open and Safari or something is the active application, then it will not work.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
Great hint! I didn't understand the hint at first until I tried it, now I get it and I like it. It's like, a quick way to clear up Finder window clutter and then bring only the front window back to focus on it.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
Couldn't get this to work for a while. In order to get it to work I had to change the view of the window from Column to something else (e.g., Icon view) and then it worked (changing it back to column after the switch usually allows it to continue working). Seems to me like it's suffering from the same problem as many other Finder shortcuts (as mentioned in a hint from yesterday.)
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
This is a disaster with my G4 dual screens - everything flew off to the right of the rightmost screen and I had to logout/in to get a normal screen setup.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
With G4 multiscreen I find it does fly off to the right, but clicking on the border left there restores everything without problems
10.3: An Exposé trick Beware the Enter key
I pressed F11 I then played around with different keys. I pressed the Enter button on the numeric keypad and a small text box appeared in the middle of my desktop with the text hilighted. I of course instincively typed over the text and hit enter again.
10.3: An Exposé trick Beware the Enter key
Definitely a bug. It seems very inconsistent for me (in column view) and I was able to duplicate your issue with the floating textbox for the filename. Seems like a bug to me.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
This doesn't seem to work if you try doing it twice with a window that has no icons in it.
10.3: An Exposé trick to show the last viewed Finder window
it looks like this happens because you're essentially just typing into the window, pressing a letter key will bring the window back with the corresponding icon highlighted. It doesn't seem to work more than once with column view windows. Cool nevertheless :-)
Not this special
The frontmost Finder-Window stays active even when not visible cause of Exposé.
Not this special
i think purpose of the f11 is to see what is on the desktop - then, if i want e.g. to copy something to or from the last finder window visited, i find this hint very useful |
