10.3: Examine OS 9 fonts to avoid conflicts in 10.3

I finally have all my applications running in Panther. I wanted to move the fonts I use the most from my Classic system font folder to my user's Library -> Fonts folder. These are mostly PostScript fonts that I have used in hundreds of documents over the years. I really needed to keep these instead of the newer versions because the spacing is so different that it screwed up my database applications. I found a big gotcha that I spent the entire day trying to resolve. Hopefully I can save somebody some time.

After moving Helvetica and Times from my System 9 folder, the Font Book application showed some conflicts within the fonts I moved. I tried disabling duplicate fonts from the OS X libraries to no avail. Some applications would not recognize these fonts because of the conflict.

The solution I finally found was to restart in System 9 and examine the font suitcases I had moved. I found these font suitcases contained both PostScript and TrueType versions of these fonts. I removed the TrueType versions, restarted, and no more conflicts!

I hope this saves somebody some time...
