10.3: A fix to enable the Canon i350 printer System
Like many others, I "lost" my i350 after installing Panther, yet it worked flawlessly in Jaguar. It showed up in the Add Printer dialogue, but Panther stated that no drivers could be found for it, although I did install them from the CD without any problems. The solution was rather simple and was finally found in Apple's discussion boards. Just rename the Canon190PM.plugin file found in /Library -> Printers -> Canon -> BJPrinter -> PMs -> Canon190PM.plugin to i350PM.plugin.

After renaming the file, you can add the i350 like any other printer. I applied this simple change and it saved me from buying a new printer as the i350 now runs perfectly.

Hi folks,

nice tip, but it may be easyer to download the update from canon... see the Driverpage on canon.com... there is a BJUpdater for Panther...

Hi..

click in http://support.canon.de/produkte/drucker/i350/i350_sw.htm to find the updater on the german site from canon.

Or click here to download it: http://support.canon.de/produkte/drucker/family/mac/bjupdater.dmg

Hi,

the update is adding the file /Library/Preferences/Canon/BJPrinter/Template/i350.xml.
Apparently with this "help" the above mentioned "canon190PM.plugin" is valid again.
Having had a look at the directories and files there, I'd say that is the Panther-way of doing things (there are some hp and lexmark and other drivers there too).

I'd rather use the Updater as we will never know how canon is going to program the next update for their drivers...

just my 2 cents.
