Delete all tracks from an iTunes' playlist and the Library Apps
If you want to delete all tracks in an iTunes playlist, and erase them from your disk completely, you can't just choose the command 'Clear,' as this will only remove the songs from the plyalist, not delete the songs from the library altogether. The quickest way I found to do both is:
  1. Select all items in the playlist
  2. Choose Get info
  3. Set the genre to 'delete'
  4. In the Library, find the genre called 'delete'
  5. Select all items in the genre
  6. Choose 'Yes' when asked 'Are you sure you want to remove the selected items from the list.'
  7. Choose Yes when asked "Some of the selected files are located in your iTunes Music Folder. Would you like to move these files to the Trash?'.
That's it; this will remove the files from both the playlist and the Library.

Alternatively you could just delete the entire iTunes Music folder located at Home -> Music -> iTunes. Make sure iTunes isn't running when you do this.

Oh, never-mind, I misunderstood the point of this hint.

I've recently discovered an easier way: [Opt]+[Del].

When you're looking at the whole library, then [Del] (and [Backspace]) will delete tracks from every playlist and from your HD (after confirmation). But from any other playlist, it only deletes tracks from that playlist alone.

However, [Opt]+[Del] does the full job on selected tracks, wherever they are - or even on entire playlists! Very handy.

I believe you can achieve the same result by selecting all the songs in the playlist and hitting option-delete.

You can always just select the tracks from your playlist and drag them to the Finder trash.
I believe it was discussed here just a week or two ago.

There is also an AppleScript to help with this...

Or just use the AppleScript "Delete Selected Track Files" in the script menu in iTunes. If you don't have it you can find it at Apple's iTunes Applescript site, along with instructions on how to install it. Some very cool and useful scripts in there.

Try Command-Opt-delete

In any playlist, you can delete songs from the playlist and library, AND move them to the trash (with confirmation) at the same time by selecting them and hitting command-option-delete.

As someone else mentioned, option-delete is similar, but it doesn't move the files to the trash.

You don't even need the option key. Command-delete does the trick.

Very good hint. How do you do the same thing in iPhoto? Often I am viewing a photo in an album and want to delete that particular photo from the entire iPhoto Library. Because I have nearly 8,000 photos in the Library, it's hard to find that particular one to delete.
