Add multi-slide sound to Keynote presentations Apps
When using Keynote, I noticed that it still has a little way to go before it can be as complete as PowerPoint. For example, there is no timeline feature that will allow a music file to be played over multiple slides.

So if you want to do this, create your Keynote presentation and export as a QuickTime movie (.mov) and open iMovie add your sound and save your new presentation. Its also fun to add film effects to your presentation.

[robg adds: I don't believe you can use this method for an interactive presentation that requires mouse clicking, etc., as the iMovie project will simply play (but perhaps I'm wrong about that...)]

alternatively you could use the slide show feature in iphoto to present your slides. this would probably create a higher quality lowere memory usage and more versatile editing, albeit without some of keynotes transitions.<p>
or perhaps better somewhat manually, just play the music in the backgroun with itune while you give a presentation in th enormal way.

Apple needs to get going with Keynote development and add in a timeline feature to have music play throughout a presentation. I've sent them feedback numerous times on this, and I've yet to see it in Keynote.

The last point you mentioned is how our department does it. We set up a general timing for sections, then put together some edited music and play it through iTunes in the background. I wish we didn't have to keep using workarounds though. Apple, please add this feature in already!

And rob is right, the QT export will ask you to set up timing up front, and will not allow you to control the timing of transitions when played, which defeats some of Keynotes usefulness.

Slightly OT...I've seen about three of the feature requests I have submitted get added into upgrades to certain Apple software products.

Nothing too innovative, actually, kind of obvious things like playing a soundtrack throughout a presentation. (I submitted a request to make timeout/disconnect of network shares a bit more friendly, cuz I would forget to logout and take my PB on the road, and man it would take forever to timeout. Now a new feature in Panther, btw) I think they let customer feedback drive their development priorities.

Add multi-slide sound to Keynote presentations

Well, It might be to messy, but my thought:
make 1 slide (for your time line) make add the sound to that one, and instead of making new slides for your 'timeline', make it all in that one timeline, by dissolving the old one and using some effect to add the next one into it,

I think this should work, didn't Steve did something similar to this on his KeyNote about the iTunes Music Store, with replacing "Rip, Mix, Burn" by .(whatever it was).. "Acquire, Manage?, Listen"

You can create QT mov that allows click progression

When exporting the slides to QuickTime there is an option that allows for timed presentations (i cannot remember the exact wordings as i am on my powerbook and Keynote is not installed there!).
That is, it will generate a QuickTime movie that plays every sequence and pauses at the transitions, requiring you to click or press [space] to play the transition and the next sequence. Very slick, and exactly like the original Keynote presentation, only portable! (The equivalent of a PDF file, but for presentations! You just need to burn to a Windows compatible CD, the Mov and the QT windows full installer on a CD to distribute your presentation in a portable, non editable -alas, non printable, ok, but just add a PDF-, for Windows users. I do that for clients.)
