Panic Software's excellent Transmit FTP/SFTP client also has the ability to be a GUI file browser for the hidden UNIX subsystem of OS X. I came across this hint while trying to view hidden files on a remote FTP server. If you go into Transmit's preferences and click on Files, then check "Show all hidden files," Transmit will show all hidden files not only on remote servers but also in the local system window.
You can then navigate the entire file system on the local machine, to include editing, deleting, and renaming files. You can also use the Get Info function on those files to view and change permissions. This may be helpful to some folks, as it seems to provide an easier method of navigating hidden files and folders from the GUI than other methods I've seen.
