I tried trashing prefs, re-installing both apps, etc. Nothing worked. The solution? Delete the Workflow folder located at /Library -> Application Support -> Adobe/. This fixed the problem!

After upgrading (regular upgrade from Jaguar) to Panther, I found that Illustrator and Photoshop wouldn't load properly. After trying to start the apps, the spinning beach ball would appear and the app would do nothing.

Carefull with this.
10.3: An easy fix for Photoshop and Illustrator crashes
Not directly related, but I discovered that applying a theme with Unsanity's ShapeShifter makes ImageReady and Photoshop crash. (Haven't tried it with other Adobe apps.) But putting those programs in ShapeShifter's or APE's exclude list fixed the problem.
10.3: An easy fix for Photoshop and Illustrator crashes
I discovered another weird one after a 10.3 install with these programs, they would crash on launch, and offer to send a problem report. Opening the problem report showed an "unable to get time zone" error or somesuch. The system's timezone had been set to GMT, setting it to EST fixed the problem. Very strange. I didn't try setting it back to GMT since the machine is being used on the East coast.

10.3: An easy fix for Photoshop and Illustrator crashes
After clean-installing Tiger, I had a similar problem in Illustrator in which Illustrator would crash on launch and I'd get the "send report" dialogue. Nothing seemed to help, including this hint. Eventually I went to the backup of my Library folder (always back this up before major upgrades!) and copied the old Illustrator preferences (from the Preferences folder in the Library backup) to my new Preferences folder. Voila. Fixed. Just thought I'd share. |
