10.3: Upgrade AirPort to avoid lost WEP keys Network
If you are on a wireless network that's (a) not broadcasting it's SSID, and (b) uses WEP, there's a bunch of matters that'll give you grief. Every time you reboot, you'll lose the airport connection -- even if you have your location set to connect to a specific network, the system just doesn't remember the base station, and re-entering a 128bit HEX key everytime is a pain (copy-paste doesn't work).

To remedy this, install the AirPort 3.2 update from Apple. As far as I can tell, it's not part of Software Update. Then re-create your location with the specific network and key. Now the machine remembers the network, key, etc and the AirPort unhappiness is gone.

My 15 inch AlBook picked up this update automaticially. This is a stock model with the Airport Extreme card installed. I also have used the Airport Utilities to talk to an old graphite basestation.

Still dosen't fix the lack of WEP Key Indexes missing, so I still cannot connect to a perfectly standard 802.11b network at work.

I have had this exact problem at work and it has been my single biggest gripe with Panther. Solved at last!!! :) After I installed the update and rebooted, I had no problem connecting to the non-wep-broadcasted network. This will make a bunch of Mac users here very happy. Just for others to note, I have a 12" PB with a clean install of Panther. The software update did not catch this update on its own.

Our AirportExtreme macs picked up the Airport 3.2 update in Software Updates... Of course I never had any of the problems described before or after the update - but the update DID enable WPA... :)

It seems there is a regression bug in AirPortSW, as there is a newer version now (3.4.2) and yet Internet Connect is now "forgetting" WEP-enabled network names and WEP keys again.

I'm using a stock (brand new) 12" Powerbook with 10.3.4 (Panther).

Copy-Paste of the HEX key does work, Just CMD-V doesn't you can CMD-Click/Right-Click to get the context menu to Paste into the field.

But this update is much better still..
