10.3: A script to fix a broken Acrobat PDF Writer Apps
After an archive install of Panther, it appeared as though Acrobat 6 was really broken. After a bit of research, I found this script from Adobe that seems to fix it for me. This is a shell script for re-installing the PDF Writer printer into CUPS. I take no credit for this hint, just posting what I found. This also repaired the Office.X buttons for PDF creation directly from a document.

[robg adds: I recently bought the Acrobat 6.0 Pro upgrade and was surprised to find that no PDF Writer was installed when I ran it for the first time. The above script also solved that problem for me.]

It just doesn't seem to work for me.
The Terminal window says:

csh: /sw/bin/init.csh: No such file or directory.
The program 'perl' was not found on your system.
The installer cannot continue. Quitting.
logout

I installed Panther with the "Archive and Install" option, what can I do? I need the pdf printer to appear again...
THX,
g

you appear to have not installed perl...you chose some option during the install which disabled it, i dont have any idea how.

This script worked like a charm. They have also posted a manual fix in their Knowledgebase, but it did nothing for me.

This script worked like a charm!

I tried the solution in the Acrobat Readme file with no success, but I've just discovered this (below) Adobe Knowledge Base Article that corrects errors in the Readme. I haven't tried it, as I discovered the above script on Mac OS X Hints first.

The link to Adobe was great, except that you neglected to mention you have to log in as either a registered member there, or as a guest. Once you log in, you have to locate the script you mentioned, it doesn't come up when you log in as Guest, which I did. f.y.i.
