Stop page loading in Safari by hitting the Escape key Web Browsers
Im not sure when it appeared, but you can stop a page from loading by simply hitting the Escape key in Safari v. 1.1

I have missed this for along time. So long, actually, that I have learned to live without it ;).

[robg adds: This also works in Jaguar.]

Hey, don't feel bad! The fact is, I never knew how to do this in Safari, so this hint was brand new to me. It used to bug the heck out of me that hitting Cmd-. did NOTHING in Safari. It's not too obvious to hit Escape, so thanks for the hint! It works great!

Hint doesn't work for home page
Authored by: crashcane on Nov 11, '03 12:58:36PM

Hitting the escape key after a new window is opened and the home page is loading fails to stop the page load.

Similarly, the home page continues to load after typing command-period after a new window is opened.

Here is a list of all the shortcut for Safari:

file:///Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Shortcuts.html

(yep is in your local hard drive, simply click the link).

This is from the Safari Debug menu.

Stop page loading in Safari by hitting the Escape key

Unfortunately this doesn't work when Safari is choking on a javascript that it doesn't like. I had this happen on an Apache Bugzilla page yesterday and called to mind this hint. Sadly, my rainbow pinwheel persisted for several minutes more.
