Change the DVD Player's default scan rate Apps
Do you find the fast forward / rewind (scan rate) of Apple DVD Player too slow? Open the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file within ~/Library -> Preferences in TextEdit and change the 4 in the sentence:

<key>DefaultScanRate</key><integer>4</integer>
to 8 or 16. I haven't tried it maximum, but 8 and 16 seem to work fine.

[robg adds: In 10.3, the DVD player includes variable scan rates up to 32x, so it looks like they've finally addressed this little issue.]

Change the DVD Player's default scan rate

I a haven't yet upgraded to the final version of panther (still using the last available dev release...)

However in the version of the DVD player, you dont need to edit the preference file at all, just set the scan rate while the dvd player is running. (Controls-> scanrate)

it remembers the value across launches.
