10.3: Stickies and Exposť allow easy storage of info tidbits Apps
Stickies is wonderful in Panther with significant improvements! In the first place, text can now be italicized or underlined. In Jaguar, the only option was bold. Secondly, there is now a Window menu. Each note can be directly accessed from this menu, and by (ta-da!) control-clicking Stickies in the Dock.

Then there is Exposť. To understand the full power of this, I need to state what I assume most people know: "Minimize" (command-M) in Stickies does not send the Sticky to the Dock, it minimizes a specific Sticky in place. That means that one can have a row of Stickies, minimized to a single line of text, along the top or bottom of the screen. You can even drag these stickies on top of each other (especially if some information should not be immediately viewable by another party), or drag them so far up or down that only a tiny three or four pixel line is showing.

Now comes the great part: Exposť will pull the stickies out from the edges of the screen and "expose" each note separately, giving you instant access to each one. This works best if you have a minimal number of other screens and apps viewable. Otherwise, each sticky becomes so small as to be unreadable. For instance, with the present state of my screen, I would hide Safari and then do F9 -- although I prefer the corner of the screen shortcut (for me, upper left).

This makes Stickies a wonderful place for short- to intermediate-term storage of small items of information, since you can have quick access to them without them cluttering up the desktop. Bravo, Apple!

Odd. Don't think this warrants its own hint, but if you are in Stickies (Stickies menu is showing) and mouse over a sticky, you get a popup window showing the creation date and modification date which includes the location (America/Chicago for me). Not sure of the value of this.

Don't forget the single-application expose - command-tab to the stickies app, and hit F10, or hit F9 and use tab to cycle open apps. I've been using this to keep all my stickies in a single pile, which works wonderfully as I don't have enough to require scaling in expose - hit F10, and they're all visible and readable.

Stickies 3.0, when reopening, places previously minimized notes at the bottom of the fully-deminimized window, not at the top where expected.
(Sorry, this isnt a hint. I have found no workaround other than going back to 2.1.)
Details: I like to keep a few notes collapsed into their title bar, at the top of the desktop. In Stickies 2.1, OS10.2, this worked. But in Stickies 3.0, Panther 10.3.2, after I minimize a note and drag its collapsed bar to the top of the desktop, save, quit, and restart Stickies, the bars appear on the desktop where the BOTTOM of the fully open window would be, not at the top. Trashing the .plist and the database files, and starting over with the default notes, does not fix the problem.
