I have just started to play with Contribute2, which is on special offer from Dot Mac, and wanted to update my Dot mac photo albums. No problem but I wanted to replace the old pages completely but use the same images. Contribute 2 allowed me to create new pages, edit old ones but it would not let me have access to my Pictures folder via the Images On My Website Menu. It restricted me to the Sites folder. and uploaded new images there into an images folder.
This meant that if I wanted to use an image already on my site, I would have to upload it again from my computer, even if I selected the images via the Images On My Computer menu and navigated to my iDisk, it would upload a copy to the site once I published the page or set the path to file://. So I found two ways around this problem.
I could work out the path to the file. This was done by going to the album in Safari, opening the image in slide show mode and then using control-click -> open image in new window. This pops it up into a popup webpage where you can then copy the address bar path. This is fine for one or two images. but if you have loads then you may want to try this.
Go to the the Contribute Menu, and select Contribute--> Myconnections. Select New and click Continue when prompted. Click Continue again with out making changes to your dot mac details. Set the web address to:
http://www.homepage.mac.com/youriDiskname/.Pictures/Make sure you include the www or you will not be able to go further. Click continue, and you will be advised that the site cannot be found do you want to continue. Select YES. Select "Connect to your web server via Local network." In the Network path field, set the path to:
youriDiskname:Pictures:Make sure you include both of the colons, then click Continue. You may be asked if you want to be set as the Administrator of this site. Since it was my site I was setting up, I selected yes. I don't know what would happen if you selected no.
