10.3: Use an external DVD drive with DVD Player 4.0
Nov 02, '03 06:24:00PM • Contributed by: Anonymous
DVD Player 4.0 now supports playback from external DVD drives without requiring a patch (as it did in Jaguar). However, the Panther installer will not install DVD Player by default if you don't have an internal drive, so you will have to extract it using the shareware package Pacifist.

Yes, this works perfectly. I tested with NEC DVD drive connected into iMac G3 via Firewire case.

I'm running 10.3.1 on an Imac tray loader, 333Mhz with a 500Mhz Harmoni cpu upgrade card with a firewire port. I have an external firewire DVD super drive purchased from MCE. I extracted the apple dvd player with Pacifist but it will not launch, just quits right after launch, there is no error message about not having an internal dvd drive, it just won't launch. Have repaired permissions. I've got a 30G Maxter hd. 3G of free space on the first partition of 2. I can get the MCE drive to play dvd's using the VLC media player. It works but the presentation is choppy. I'd like to be able to use the Apple DVD player if possible. Thanks.

This follows up on helping an external drive get recognized under 10.3.3; |
