10.3: Open new, close old windows from the sidebar
Oct 31, '03 10:11:00AM • Contributed by: SouthofHeaven
This might be rather dull hint but, while playing with the keyboard in Panther I discovered that if you Option-click any file, folder, or icon on the left sidebar in the Finder window, the item will open in a new window while closing the previous window.

same functionality with any Finder window or item...
it's been this way for awhile. using the Option or Apple keys provide greater control of windows and documents and how the window or document behaves when clicking on it.
same functionality with any Finder window or item...
What's nice about this hint, and, I think, brand new, is that it only takes *one* click.
10.3: Open new, close old windows from the sidebar
No. This is new behavior. Option-double click always opened new file/folders while closing the old window. This hint if just option-single click. But it only works in the sidebar, because it only takes a single click to open a sidebar item.
Not entirely new
This same behavior is in 10.2 when clicking (once) on a shortcut in the toolbar.
10.3: Open new, close old windows from the sidebar
Command-Click also works but it leaves the previous window open.
10.3: Open new, close old windows from the sidebar
It seems that using Option-Click on either a sidebar item or an item in a finder window opens the window with the finder settings previously saved. |
