10.3: Write random data during disk formatting Apps
Go to Disk Utility -> Erase, and click the Options button to select "8 Way Random Write Format" to write random data over the entire disc eight times!

I don't know if it is "military grade," but it's good enough for me. Just saved me from having to buy another app!

How long should it take?

I tried it on a Dual 2.0 G5, with a 160 GB SATA drive. Left it running from Friday to Monday, and still hadn't finished.
